Have you ever experienced what is known as a "bad hair day" and it completely changed your entire week? Perhaps, you've noticed that when you wear your hair in a bun, people take you more seriously, whereas when you wear your hair up in a messy bun, you don't stand out.
Well, everyone on TikTok has an explanation for what is known as the "hair theory"!
People are convinced that the way you hold your hair, its length, style and color affect your overall look. The hashtag #hairtheory has received more than 500 million views, so if you haven't paid much attention to the viral trend yet, you might as well do so now.

What is the "hair theory" on TikTok?
"This theory claims that the way you style your hair can change how you look and how others perceive you," says Clayton Hawkins, a celebrity stylist. "Ask anyone who has ever changed their hair color or put on a wig and they will confirm to you that: Yes, people absolutely do treat you differently depending on how your hair looks."
Not only can it affect how others perceive you, but it can affect how you feel personally. Think a little! Have you ever had a bad hair day that frustrated you to no end? Otherwise, a good hair day has you feeling more confident than ever?

So which factors give the biggest impact? Hair color can make a difference, as can cuts and styles that are made specifically to emphasize certain facial features. "There are several haircuts that complement different face shapes," says Andrew Fitzsimons, hair stylist to some of the world's VIPs. "For someone with a rounder face, a short, sharp cut can really help elongate the face."
While most of us may be considering "hair theory" for the first time, it's something stylists think about all the time. "What I love most about TikTok Hair Theory is that it's an insider's view of what we as hairdressers do every day, behind the chair," says Chris Jones, ambassador for a popular hair dye brand.
