Hail, thunderstorms and hundreds of millimeters of rain "invaded" Australia this week, but the question naturally arises whether massive fires have been extinguished?
The answer is no. However, the rain has helped firefighters control their spread. Local sources told The Guardian that Australia had a "dramatic decrease" in fire activity.
However there are still 87 fires that continue destroying entire areas. "Not necessarily the rain has extinguished the fires, but it has stopped spreading," local representatives added.
The chaotic situation is still continuing, as firefighters have confirmed that the situation could worsen within days, despite the weather. "Fires are likely to increase again by the end of the week."
Australian fires have been going on since June 2019, especially in the south-east, where the state of emergency was declared. Since January 14, fires have destroyed 18.6 million hectares of land, destroyed 5,900 buildings and caused the deaths of 30 people. It is estimated that the number of animals burned amounts to one billion.
