Suspicious private wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that they were crowned three days before the famous May 2018 ceremony.

"No one knows, but we called the Archbishop of Canterbury and said, 'Look, this thing, this spectacle, is only for the world, but we want our union between us.' - said Meghan who added that the ceremony was organized in the backyard with the archbishop present.

Harry claimed the same thing, namely that Archbishop Justin Welby crowned the couple. But Newcastle church vicar Rev Mark Edwards contacted the archbishop's office after claims to clarify about church policies, according to local newspaper The Chronicle.

Edwards said he was told by staff at Lambeth Palace, the archbishop's official residence, that "Justin does not have private weddings," reports The Sun. Edwards claims that the person he spoke to told him that "Justin had a private conversation with the couple in the garden about the wedding, but I can assure you, no marriage took place until the national television event."

The Church of England requires two witnesses to be present in order for the wedding to be valid - and the ceremonies must take place in a "certified place of worship" that allows the public "unrestricted access" in order to raise objections.

"This put the priests in a difficult position about what constitutes a marriage in the Church of England," Edwards told the Chronicle, saying he had had many requests for private ceremonies during the coronavirus restrictions in the UK.
