Anonymous is an international group widely known for various cyber attacks against governments, government institutions and agencies, corporations and the Church of Scientology.
Anonymous originated in 2003. The members of this group - who are clearly anonymous and known as Anons - are known for wearing Guy Fawkes' famous "V for Vendetta" mask. In addition to the face, members of Anonymous prefer to change their voice through coding programs.
In its infancy, Anonymous was created as a decentralized community that acted anonymously and coordinated toward a major goal, which was generally entertaining.
In 2008, Anonymous received tremendous attention after the cyber attack on Church of Scientology - a group of corporations and organizations that are defined as a cult or religious movement. At the time, Anonymous attacked the Church of Scientology website.
Later, the target of the Anonymous attacks were US government agencies, Israel, Tunisia, Uganda, Islamic State, child pornography sites, copyright agencies, churches, corporations such as PayPal, MasterCard and Visa. Anonymous has publicly supported WikiLeaks and the Occupy movement.
Dozens of people have been arrested in connection with cyberattacks on states such as the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, India, Turkey and Anons, and have been described as "cyber terrorists" despite their popularity and online support.
Anonymous has no specific intentions, although there is a desire to fight censorship, promote freedom of speech, and oppose government control. Recently, Anonymous came out against the police in the US, threatening to publish documents against them, in case they endanger the lives of the protesters, who are raising their voices against racism.
The main principle of the group is "anti-oppression".
Anonymous has been silent since 2016 and has returned this year.
In February 2020, the group hack-oi the United Nations website and created a page for Taiwan, which has no place in the UN since 1971.
This month, following the death of George Floyd , Anonymous announced that he would take revenge on the Minneapolis Police Department.
These days, the group claims that well-known names, such as President Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Naomi Campbell, have been present at the festivities organized by Jefrrey Epstein , a child rapist and trafficker. Anonymous further claims that there is evidence that the British royal family killed Lady Diana.
