In 2014, Alvin Berisha, then only 6 years old, was abducted by his mother Valbona Berisha and both fled Italy to ISIS-controlled territories. Alvin's father Afrim Berisha, a longtime Kosovo Albanian immigrant from Italy, has since tried to find Alvin. Fortunately, thanks to Luigi Pelazza of the show "Le Iene" who has been following this issue for a long time, Alvin was found in a camp in Syria.
But on the other hand, the 11-year-old's life is in danger. The camp where he lives is packed with Kurdisan terrorists. "I've seen these photos for five years," says Afrim Berisha, who after five years was able to hug his son.
The five years of facing the war and the bombs seem to have left a mark on Alvin. In the video , the boy appears shy and if not enough, he is injured in the leg in an explosion where his mother was killed.
Alvin's return to Italy is another problem. Born and raised in Italy, the 11-year-old holds Albanian citizenship and the only way to get him out of the ISIS camp is through an Albanian government delegate. Luigi Pelazza has publicly appealed to the Italian and Albanian authorities, who have not responded in time to the case.
Pelazza also phoned the Albanian ambassador to Turkey, Genti Gazheli, who hung up.
The territory where Alvin lives is in danger of being bombed by Turkey.
In December 2014, security cameras at the Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo captured Alvin and his mother. Following the investigation, it was discovered that Valbona Berisha, through the Internet, had contacted some preachers of Islamic extremism. She left behind two daughters and fled to ISIS-controlled territories.
