Widely known for its magnificent architecture, green spaces and traditional cafes, the European capital was declared the best place in the world to live. It's about Vienna.

The Austrian capital topped the list with almost perfect results. He was followed by Melbourne, Sydney, Osaka and Calgary.

The data is compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit based on the annual livability index. The index takes into account 30 qualitative and quantitative factors, which are divided into five main categories: stability (25%), health care (20%), culture and environment (25%), education (10%) and infrastructure (20%).

Although the first ten were dominated by Australia, Canada and Japan, European countries performed well overall. Eight of the top 20 cities to inhabit are in Northern Europe, such as Copenhagen, Zurich, Frankfurt or Geneva, respectively, in 11th, 12th and 14th.
Helsinki, Amsterdam and Hamburg were also in the top 20, while Berlin and Luxembourg were in the 21st and 23rd.
London and New York were highly praised for their culture, but fell short due to infrastructure problems, stability as well as the risk of terrorism and other crimes. The cities ranked 48th and 58th respectively. The same goes for Paris at 26th, which dropped six positions from last year's rankings due to anti-government protests.
Damascus in Syria was named the world's least livable city, followed by Lagos in Nigeria and Dhaka in Bangladesh.
