Activists have hung a photograph of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor in the Louvre museum in Paris, showing him sitting in the back seat of a Range Rover as he leaves a police station after being arrested.
The action was organised by the British political campaign group Everyone Hates Elon , which placed the photograph on one of the gallery walls. The image was taken by Reuters photographer Phil Noble after Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of abuse of office.
Under the photo frame was a provocative caption: "He's Sweating Now ", meaning "now he's breaking out in cold sweats".
The former Duke of York was arrested on his 66th birthday on suspicion of sharing confidential government information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 2001 and 2011. Documents released by the US Department of Justice in January suggest he shared reports on official visits.
Mountbatten-Windsor has not commented recently, but has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. His links to the financier forced him to step back from royal duties and in January 2022 he was stripped of his royal patronages.
Police searches at his former residence in Windsor began on Thursday and were expected to conclude early this week, amid growing calls for him to be removed from the line of succession to the British throne.
