Sleep and stress are closely linked, just as our minds and bodies have an innate relationship that we often forget to address during our waking hours. We may be distracted by multiple tasks and repressed emotions during the day, but when the subconscious takes over at night, all of this pent-up stress has nowhere to go.
People who are truly stressed and overwhelmed by fatigue usually experience several things during sleep that are directly related to this emotional and internal turmoil. Here are some of them:
1. They wake up frequently during the night
If the mind is overactive and doesn't have time to "settle down" before bed, chronic stress can often cause a million little awakenings throughout the night. Especially for people who wake up and have trouble falling back asleep from racing thoughts and anxiety, this habit may be a sign that they're more stressed than they realize.

2. They wake up more tired
Although there are external habits to combat waking up tired, like limiting coffee or removing screens before bed, addressing stress is often a powerful way to truly wake up refreshed and energized.
3. They have dreams and nightmares
Although nightmares are often vague, experts suggest that there are many reasons for higher exposure to nightmares at night. From PTSD, unresolved trauma, anxiety, and of course stress, people who experience more active thoughts and dreams at night compensate for the potential threats they experience during the day.

4. Teeth chatter
Involuntary grinding of teeth at night, known as “bruxism,” is most common in people who are really stressed and tired during the day. When stress negatively affects the quality of sleep and prevents the achievement of deep rest, this is why tired people wake up with tension in their jaw and mouth.
5. They sweat a lot.
Feeling hot and sweating excessively at night can also be a symptom of stress. The body works to release the “tension” and stress that the mind is experiencing, and this makes people uncomfortable while trying to rest.
6. They change positions a lot during the night
Sleep researchers say that nearly 75% of people experience sleep disruptions when they are overly stressed during the day. Frequent changing of position in bed is a sign of fatigue and anxiety that is not being relieved, preventing restful sleep.

7. Difficulty sleeping deeply
Although many people fall asleep, deep, restorative rest is not always achievable for tired and stressed people. They wake up tired, spend most of the night in light sleep, and feel “tense” even while in bed.
8. The heart always beat fast
Rapid heartbeat and feelings of anxiety at night can be caused by chronic stress, which impairs sleep quality and causes a constant feeling of anxiety.
9. They wake up from distractions during sleep
Even small stimuli at night, such as light or background noise, can disrupt sleep and cause frequent awakenings, especially in those who have tendencies towards overthinking and anxiety.

10. They often wake up with stomach pains
Chronic stress can also affect the digestive system. If someone wakes up frequently at night with tension in their body and stomach pain, this may be the body's way of signaling that stress levels are unbearable.
11. They snore more often
Snoring that occurs during sleep is often related to stress and fatigue, further adding to the exhaustion you feel in the morning and during the day.
