Women in a village near Barcelona voted to go topless in public pools.

The ballot score at L'Ametlla del Valles, attended by 379 women, went to 61% for topless and 39% against her.

The Catalan local authority organized the vote, the outcome of which is legally binding for women ages 16 and older.

Women demanded voting after police ordered two women in a pool last year to wear a bikini. A beach guard reported to the police. The case sparked protests from peasants supporting women.

The village of 8,000 inhabitants is 35 km (22 miles) north of Barcelona.
